I agree with President Trump creating the travel ban that has potential to hurt US citizens, directly of indirectly. Most citizens are saying this is an irrational move by Trump, calling it discriminating, as well as not needed. I disagree with those statements, because some of those countries deserve that ban. Just take a look North Korea. If any country deserved a ban earlier, it's this one. Their leader is doing very dangerous missile tests, that could be aimed at us. If we have certain people into our country leaking information back to North Korea, this could create a tremendous disaster for us, and the rest of the world, to an extent. Creating this travel ban is not an irrational thing, it is more like the best decision to do. As stated by President Trump, “As president, I must act to protect the security and interests of the United States and its people.”, he is simply doing just that. Making sure we are safe, and make sure we can have a bright future. I agree with all of these countries on the ban. Some of them could pose terroristic threats, some of them could try to corrupt our government, and some could be a downfall to our economy. I am not saying to add more countries, but the ones on now are a good choice by President Trump.

Would you change any of the bans, which ones, if any, and why would you make the change?

The Trump administration created a ban on travel from countries that were seen as a threat to the safety of the U.S. citizens. Many see the travel ban as a discriminatory act against Muslims and or a completely unnecessary action made by irrational people, but Restrictions on the travel of people from other countries is a necessity to keep the American people safe. Countries in Europe and near Europe that have taken in a massive amount of refuges from the middle east have been paying for it with increased crime and terrorist attacks. America should not allow a mass of immigrants and instead should protect itself from threats and restrict who can come into the country. The ban is based on good intentions but the trump admiration made choices and presented their final decision in a manner that does not sit well with the public and produces outrage and resistance. The travel ban should be revised as to not block non-threats and to allow travel but still restrict it in a reasonable way to ensure the safety of the American people. Would you implement travel restrictions on other countries? How effective are the restrictions put up by the trump administration? I believe the bans on other countries will be effective in the long run. Since we have multiple possible-terrorism countries on the list, this could help us in securing the safety of all Americans. This ban will be effective, and could possibly deter many potential problems for America, and we could now have a growing country, with less foreign threats under President Trump.

People believe that the travel bans are to eliminated Muslim foreigners in our country, this may have some truth to it considering Trumps view on Muslims but its main purpose is not to discriminate but to protect the American people from certain threats. Most of the travel bans are in the middle east so that makes scenes because that is where ISIS and al-Qa'ida are and they remain a huge threat to the American people. The one ban that didn't make sense to a lot of people and to the nation itself was Chad. From an article from NPR(National Public Radio) they said, "Chad is totally puzzled and baffled by President Trump's decision to slap this ban on Chadian nationals," NPR's Ofeibea Quist-Arcton tells Morning Edition. "Chad is not happy, because it feels that it has done its utmost in the fight against terrorism." NPR says that this may have been something to do with oil, "Chad had accused Exxon Mobil, which exports crude from Chad, of not meeting its tax obligations to the African state. The Chadian government sought a whopping $74 billion fine in addition to $819 million in overdue royalties.". It's clear that the relation between the U.S and Chad will be tarnished after all of this is over. We still have not gotten a clear answer as to why Chad is on the travel ban. I appreciate the use of other sources, which is something that I was puzzled upon. It makes a bit of sense why there is a ban, because the Trump Administration doesn't want the Chadian government to interfere with our supply of crude oil. This could be seen as a sort of punishment to put on that huge fine, by restricting travel. That might be one of the main causes, but that probably is not correct, but it might help to shed some light on this rather mysterious, but useful ban.

Instead of hitting the "Quote" button, simply use @thestudentsname to signify your reply, this way we will not take up so much space (Thank you Emily Sarver for this idea)
For example:
@michaeldudich I appreciate that you got this discussion board started.
@michaelantal nice job contributing early to the board.
Both student replies may appear (but are not limited to appear) in the same thread. Meaning, both of your relies can be made at once like the example above. Please make your replies to your peers longer than one sentence though.
Your efforts thus far are making me really excited and thrilled by your participation! Keep it up!

The new travel ban made by the Trump administration was allegedly created to protect the american people. But a lot of people are taking the ban as still a muslim ban because it has many of the same countries on the ban as before, and people say that adding some non-muslim countries, like North Korea and Venezuela, doesn't change why the Trump administration created the ban. This topic is however rejected by the Trump administration because they are stating that the ban is to strictly to help prevent terrorism from entering the United States. But this doesn't make sense when it comes to Chad because Chad poses a significantly lower terrorism threat than the other countries. So when the Trump administration was asked why Chad was on the list the answer was never clearly said so people are angry and confused why Chad is on the list even Chad's government is puzzled to why they made the list. These just show how the ban needs to be reconstructed so that it give reasons why each country is on the ban, and what are the benefits to the American people for having them on the ban.
Would you say that the Trump administration is being to broad on their reasons for having the ban? If you were to reconstruct the ban what changes would you make and why?

The American government should NOT punish the Chad government for enforcing their own laws that say that the crude oil company needs to pay their tax obligations and pay the royalties that were due. So we should not ban Chad for just enforcing their own laws.

@dudich his original post:
I agree that Chad is a country that has almost no reason for being on the ban list. I just find it interesting that the Trump administration would give a clear reason why Chad is on the list and how even the Chad's government is puzzled as to why their on the list.

On Sunday Trump announced a new travel ban adding three more countries to the list. The three new countries added to the list are Venezuela, Chad, and North Korea. The ban on all these countries is focusing on muslim countries, but Trump says he is not in any way trying to target them. People are beginning to be confused and scared to why the country Chad is on the list. Sudan was taken off of the list, because of their corporattion with the U.S. government. Trump stated “As president, I must act to protect the security and interests of the United States and its people...” Trump is not banning these states as anything more than protecting our country, it may not seem like it but he is doing everything to protect us, but everyone needs to be treated equal and anyone who wants to come to our country should be allowed.
Is the ban necessary or just causing issues? Will the ban protect our country in any way?

The travel ban is necessary for the safety and security of our country. President trump said this himself in a roundabout way and I could not agree with him more. While he has added three new countries to the original ban, he has also removed the countries that have meet the requirements of the U.S. The article stated that “Sudan’s cooperation with the U.S. government on national security and information-sharing showed it was appropriate to remove them off of it.” Taking this into consideration it is not difficult to get removed from the travel ban list if you are open to discussions with the U.S. government. Iraq has been removed as well through “using secure biometric passports,... and willingly passing along terrorism and criminal-history information.” So again they had the capabilities to take these steps so the other countries should have that same ability as well. Some of the countries banned like Syria and Yemen are clearly unstable because they are embroiled in conflict and that is why “a senior administration official said that the ban is “necessary and conditions-based, not time-based.’’ There is no reason that the Government should not have intervened, simply because these countries that did not meet our security needs are a threat to the safety and stability of our country.
What else could the country do other than a travel ban? Or is the travel ban the most foolproof option?

@burnett I feel that the ban is necessary for most of the countries and that it will protect us until we improve the vetting process.

Now this would most likely never happen but the thought of putting yourself into chads position is maddening because they are just doing what they feel is right for their country and it seems to be nonviolent. So why should there be repercussions for it, especially because it is not causing reported harm to anyone.

President Trumps statement about protecting the security and interests of people of the United States, is in my opinion what every president should strive for. When he added countries to the travel ban it only increased our safety, but when Trump added countries to the travel ban was that just so the Muslim countries won't get offended. With having the travel ban we are not saying all people from these countries are bad it's just that we have had problems with them befor or we fear we will. It's also not about their religion or their race. If Trump putting a travel ban on counties offends them they should understand the reason their getting banned and if they feel the need they can fix that problem. There is also enough compelling government interest to have a travel ban because if not there is oppertunity for a disaster.
In the future will there be more countries added to the travel ban and what will be the determining factor?

L. Pierce Max In my opinion there is a better was to secure our safety other than a travel ban, such as a better security system. The only problem with that is that if we were to create a better security system it would be very complicated.
