Thinking about all that is going on in Myanmar and all the lives that are being lost is a terrifying thought. People are being taken or forced out of their homes purely because of a stereotype or fear that the Rohingya people will terrorize the country. I still do not understand why the government sees that what they are doing is just as bad, if not worse than what the supposed "terrorist Rohingya" could do. They are killing, raping, belittling their own people. I do not think this is an ethnic cleansing. I see this more as a target on the minority and discrimination against people that deserve rights. As stated in one of the articles, this is beyond the line of human rights. This is no longer a government trying to persecute illegal immigrants, this is an inhumane, mass execution. I definitely think this should be considered a genocide, if it is not already. The definition of a genocide is the mass killing of a group of people, especially those of a particular ethnicity or nation. Forcing these some 600,000 people to leave the country they were born and raised in, is something that can no longer be left alone. Since the government of Myanmar is clearly corrupt, other countries need to get involved. This is no longer only effecting one country. It is effecting Bangladesh as well, an already poor and underprivileged country. Despite attempts as mentioned in one of the documents, government intervention from other countries may be beneficial. Some people view it as the fact that since the United States does not get any benefits from this country, that it should just be left alone. Soon, the problems will spread to a national level, and Bangladesh wont be the only country effected. When and how do you think the government of Myanmar should be addressed about this issue?

@sarah I agree with everything you said. Now the question is who is going to step up and help. The slow time it's taking to intervene is frustrating but you have to put yourself in the shoes of leaders around the world. There are so many factors that go into the process before helping out in a situation like this.

@erin I like the word choice of statelessness. You are right they are not native anywhere so it seems that if nobody will help they will go extinct like some endangered animals that are killed illegally and do not get help from anyone.

As the fastest growing refugee crisis in the world, the fact that international news is not actively covering this issue is very strange. A few other issues also seem really disturbing: the lack of intervention to stop a clear ethnic cleansing of his own people by the government, and the complete lack of action taken by any member on the UNHRC. This shows one of the most important underlying problems throughout the “unbiased” council on human rights. If the council truly stood for every human, created for the sole purpose of protecting our race from atrocities such as this, then why does it seem that the council focuses more on any economically beneficial situation then one offering no monetary gain? One important quote i found highlighting this disturbing fact is “Otherwise it shows that, in the UNHRC, politics have definitely taken precedence over values and this would be the beginning of the end of this Council.” this quote is said after observing the horrible lack of action on the UN’s part. I agree with this quote and also can see that any council given this much power would most likely become corrupt after enough time. The public should be keeping an eye on any institution whose single purpose is left unattended after being funded millions of dollars. I am just as disturbed by this as i am by the lack of media coverage of this quickly growing crisis. If the UN continues to idle in the face of this calamity, then it is up to other nations and perhaps another international group to help these people. The crimes against humanity are so gruesome and obvious, that if there were adequate media coverage, i believe that this problem could have been dealt with already. The public would be outraged and disgusted and the popularity of the issue would be enough drive for our government to intervene. What other secret agenda is on the government’s mind to facilitate the slaughtering of thousands of its own people? How can the word be spread around effectively to force mainstream media coverage to include this crisis? How much do we actually know about the proper uses of the UNHRC foreign powers? And lastly, how many more insane violations of human rights over the years has been covered up from the public eye?

@eithan I definitely agree with you when you said that this reminded you of the Muslim veil ban, because that's the first thing I thought of. I believe in our eyes that the government of Myanmar is corrupt, but is that just how their people think? Although they have different opinions, what is immoral to us may not be immoral to the people of other ethnicities or backgrounds. I believe their government is corrupt, but maybe all of their leaders or government officials are corrupt also.

@autumn I really liked some of the points you made, and to answer the question of if this is too big of an issue to handle, I think it is. To other countries wanting to get involved and help the Rohingya people, they don't really know how or where to start. I think it is intimidating and some may think it's not worth getting involved.

@sarah the UN needs to have a serious discussion with the Myanmar government as soon as possible. It can't wait any longer because as more time goes by, the situation will only get worse.
@derek it seems like the only people who can really help are outsiders. The government and the majority people of Myanmar obviously don't care enough to help the Rohingya.

When and how do you think the government of Myanmar should be addressed about this issue? @sarah Very nice response. I definitely think the Myanmar government should be addressed about this issue as soon as possible to bring this issue to a stop. Although, I think it's more complicated than that. I think this is too big of a problem for us to make an impact.Although it would be nice to try, it may not be beneficial. May be too far gone, but we just have to have hope!

What other secret agenda is on the government’s mind to facilitate the slaughtering of thousands of its own people? @seth It seems as if there is always a hidden agenda. As we recently read about in The Communist Manifesto, people in power express selfishness and greed. Money is a selfish desire, although it is necessary for survival. The slaughtering of their own people is obviously not seen as a loss to them, it is somehow a gain. It is often difficult to know someone's true motivation, as seen in this situation. I myself am curious of the possible hidden agenda.
