@maddy I completely agree about you saying how other countries think of the U.S. as a leader, but how are we to lead other countries when we are just sitting and watching part of our colonies struggle to survive. Other countries are probably going to think that we only care about ourselves and not about others surrounding us, which will make us look awful in their eyes. How can we expect other countries to look up to us if we don’t be a leader and help out whoever we can with all the resources we have. As Americans we are so very fortunate with all we have, with that being said we should help out a part of our colonies because we CAN! Brooke I do agree with your way of thinking. We should go help Puerto Rico, because by doing nothing we are showing the rest of the world that we unreliable and unwilling to help anyone even our own colonies. What kind of message does that send to other counties that want to alien with us in the meantime. When people are suffering others should help. When the people do not want your help is when you should give up.

Puerto Rico has been home to U.S. citizens for 100 years as of this year, why aren't we doing more to help? It took the United States almost a week to send out help. Could you imagine what it would be like to have no power, no house, no food or fresh water? That is what these people have gone through for at least a week and many for longer. President Trump used the excuse “on an island in the middle of the ocean,” where “you can't just drive your trucks there from other states.” We are a world power and you are trying to say we don't have the ability to get out there within a day or two to assist our fellow 3.4 Americans who live on the island. The United States should be more focused on helping Puerto Rico, it's not like they can control their geographic location and if it's too big of a burden let them become their own country rather than use them, kill their economy and leave them to dry in a natural disaster. Increased news coverage would help but everyone's is too focused on the President’s war with the NFL to realize what happened to Puerto Rico.
Question: Should the United States focus and educate it's mainland citizens on Puerto Rico or should we abandon the island all together?
